Information Regarding the Portal
Using online computer applications represents a bit of a 'challenge' to many people - especially those of us that didn't grow up using computers as part of their everyday lives. When I went through engineering school we used slide-rules as there were no computers and not even any calculators - how far the world has come!
This page is intended to help you understand the resident portal and "What you get" on the left and right sides. Hopefully this will help you decide what, if anything, to post and where to post it.
The web site has two main functions: (a) the right side, which is called a "List Server" and (b) the left side, at the bottom, which has a link that leads to a "Continuous Comment Log." Let's discuss each:
The List Server:
The List Server requires you to provide your email address and name. You cannot be anonymous. WHen you "post" a message to the List Server, all persons that have joined the List Server will get the message. So, if there are 500 'members' then all of them will get your message the next day in their daily digest of the list server messages along with any other messages posted that day. It is best used for universal messages like "Please Attend the City Council Meeting next Tuesday. They will be discussing the Annual Budget." or "Next Monday is 'National Night Out,' support our police department by attending a PVE Neighborhood Watch meeting."
The Comment Section:
On the bottom left of the home page there is a link to a page that allows residents to comment on a vast number of pre-supplied areas of interest. It also allows a person to create a new area of interest that will then be added to the "drop-down" list. The Comments can be anonymous or the person posting the comment can add their email address. The Comments accumulate forever and are arranged with the most recent comment first. When any list of comments gets too large, the older messages will be archived. Currently there is no limit to the number of comments, but in the future the limit will probably be set at 100 per comment area.
Nasty Comments:
All comments should be objective and accurate. All nasty comments and personal attacks will be removed as soon as practical. Anyone that is offended by a message should contact me directly at JRNyman@c-mti.com so I can expidite removing the message. I am open to any and all comments but currently I am the only one that can administer the message and remove the offensive content. {I'd be happy to hand this off to anyone who wishes the job!}
